Up to four. Two players take opposite ends of the screen, three or four take a corner each, and every game lays itself out for the number of players you pick before it starts. Each player keeps the same colour in every game — player 1 coral, player 2 blue, player 3 gold and player 4 green — so everyone can find themselves at a glance. A phone works well for two and for four at a squeeze; a tablet is better for four.

Yes. Every game except Team Tanks and Capture the Flag has an Against bot option, and you choose how hard the bot plays: easy, medium or hard. From two players up, the seats are for people only.

Team Tanks and Capture the Flag are team games for exactly four players. The two people sitting along the same side of the device are a team. In Team Tanks the first team to win three rounds takes the match; in Capture the Flag you carry the other team's flag back to your base, or destroy both of their tanks.

Not to play. Everyone playing is already in the same room, so there is no matchmaking, no lobby code and no account, and every game runs on the device itself — in airplane mode, on a plane, or anywhere without signal. When a connection is available, the app uses it to show ads and for purchases through the App Store or Google Play.

It depends on the game, but it is always simple. Some games are a single button — hold it, tap it, or let go at the right moment. Others are a drag, like pulling back a slingshot or moving a paddle, and a few give you a small joystick for steering. Each player's control sits in their own corner or on their own side of the screen, and every game has a short HOW TO PLAY guide. Most people have it worked out by the end of the first round.

In several games, yes. You can pick the arena in the four tank games, the circuit in Car Race, Rail Race and Apex Dash, the hole in Putt Party, the park in Bone Bandits, the table in Pincers and the biome in Dino Run and Dino Endless — or leave it on Random and get a different one each time.

It is free to download and play on both stores, and every game is available from the start. It is supported by ads, which appear when you come back to the menu from a game. If you would rather not see them, there is one optional purchase, Remove Ads — a one-time payment, not a subscription. There are no coins, tokens or other in-app purchases.

Yes, and four-player games are noticeably better on one — everyone gets a real corner to reach instead of sharing a phone-sized screen. It works on iPad and on Android tablets.

Yes. The games are cartoon-styled with no realistic violence, there is no chat and no way to contact other people through the app, and each game's HOW TO PLAY shows the idea in pictures with a short caption, so very little reading is needed.

Yes. New mini games arrive as ordinary app updates, so they appear in the menu without you needing to install anything new. The line-up has grown steadily since the app launched.

They are the same app and the same games. The two store listings carry different titles — Party Games: 4 Player Games on the App Store and Offline 1 2 3 4 Player Games on Google Play — which is a search-listing difference, not a difference in what you install.

Some basic troubleshooting steps:

Restart the device (no data lost):

• Hold the power button and slide to power off.
• Wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.

Clear cache or reinstall (data will be lost — back it up first):

• On Android: Settings → Apps → select the app → Clear cache / Clear data.
• On iOS/iPadOS/macOS: delete the app and reinstall it from the App Store.
